Lie – to tell an untruth. Past tense, lied. You lie, you are lying, you lied, you are a fibbing bastard.
Lie – to lie down. Past tense, lay. Present perfect, lain. So, basically you lie down now, you are lying down, you have lain down, you did lay down yesterday.
Lay – to place something down. Past tense, laid. You lay an egg, you are laying an egg, you laid an egg yesterday.
How to remember? Hens lay, Men lie!

Whisky – Scotch whisky only, made in Scotland, never to be refered to as Whiskey
Whiskey – Non-Scotch whiskey. If your whisky is made in Ireland or America or pretty much anywhere that isn't Scotland, you can call it Whiskey. Please note, the spelling of whisky/whiskey does not depend on where the writer comes from, it depends on where the whisky/whiskey comes from!

Publication titles should be italicised.

'Nutters' is the plural form of 'nutter', you cannot be 'nutters' unless there are several of you and you are all a bit insane.

Snakes are rarely poisonous, but many are venomous! Poisonous means it will harm you if you bite it, venemous means it will harm you if it bites you.

Potions and medicines should be ingested, salves are applied to the skin.

All canon spellings are taken from the original UK editions of JK Rowling's Harry Potter series of books only.
